A Lesson Before Dying?
My first impression of A Lesson Before Dying is that the people doesn't treat the black guy right and also I believe that his lawyer doesn't either.

Examine the symbol of a hog as it is used in the novel
In the book A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines when Jefferson's attorney called him a hog he really didn't mean it how people took it, he was trying to say that Jefferson didn't kill them he was only dumb enough to get in the car with them to go in the store with them. This back fired on the defense argument by them thinking that the attorney was saying that he would put Jefferson in the electric chair too. Also after his attorney called him a hog Jefferson started to feel sad and not confident about his self.
The remark affected Miss Emma because it was saying that after all them years she took to raise Jefferson was just a waist of time, all her hard work was being judged badly. It affected Tante Lou because she was there for Miss Emma so since it hurt she felt bad because that's her friend. It didn't really hurt Grant because he didn't really care he did everything on the strength of Miss Emma too. Jefferson was affected by this because he didn't want to eat anything nor talk to Miss Emma when she came to visit him. Jefferson did eat one time and he got on his hands and knees and eat with his mouth in the basket.
